Traveling exhibition on ecological transition

From the outset, Energy Observer and then the Energy Observer Foundation have been developing an educational traveling exhibition in various formats to raise public awareness about the major challenges of energy and ecological transition. In 7 years of Odyssée, Energy Observer Foundation exhibition villages have welcomed visitors in Singapore, Cape Town, Avoriaz, at the start of the Route du Rhum, Saint-Malo and Paris.

Learn, understand, transmit, exchange and share: this free to access, immersive and interactive exhibition is a unique opportunity to dive from the laboratory ship into the very heart of a series of topics, which are as fundamental as the climate change struggle, ecological transition, energy policies and the commitment to sustainable development.

Problematic

Extending Energy Observer’s influence on land

Energy Observer is a laboratory ship promoting energy and ecological transition, self-sufficiency in energy through a mixture of renewable energies and renewable hydrogen produced aboard from sea water.

The stopovers for our vessel span the world and make it possible to raise awareness among a wide audience about the challenges of sustainable development, whilst showcasing practical solutions to accelerate the transformation of our societies.

Nevertheless, facilities for hosting the public aboard the vessel are limited, as are its stopovers, which are interspersed by increasingly long sea passages. The challenge for the Energy Observer Foundation was to find ways to raise awareness about the challenges supported by Energy Observer as a whole and to do so much more extensively, beyond the scope of the vessel.

Response

An exhibition village around the world

The Energy Observer exhibition is available in two languages in its full version. It accompanies the vessel throughout its major round the world stopovers and it comprises two geodesic domes and containers, which have been transformed into a circular economy approach. The latter enables the educational content to go on display, as well as to transport all the exhibition equipment on container ships to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.

The exhibition unveils a timeline designed with the support and expertise of Ademe (French Environment and Energy Management), which retraces the history of energy transition, ecological awareness and the Energy Observer laboratory.

Both immersive and educational, is offers up a series of colossal screenings and slides enabling an exploration of all the latest technologies aboard the laboratory ship, their application at sea and on land, as well as solutions championed by the pioneers encountered along the way and filmed right around the world through the prism of the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives for which Energy Observer is the primary French ambassador.

Impact

The ‘cube’, a condensed version of our exhibition village

Whilst our village travels the world alongside the ship, a second device known as ‘the cube’ tours the cities of France. This exhibition showcases the principles behind immersive content and, whilst the village is in its most ‘mobile’ form with no dedicated screening areas, it is a lot quicker and easier to install.

Our exhibition cube has already visited numerous destinations across France, with 5 key dates in 2021, including Hyvolution in Paris, Assises de l’Economie de la Mer (Maritime Economy Conference) and the Energy Transition Days in Nice.
